We’re so lucky to have such wonderful countryside on our doorstep. All of a sudden the rapeseed fields and bluebell woods are abundant with flowers. Here are a few local woodlands where you can capture the best of the bluebells! But be quick – they don’t hang about!
Andrews Woods – just past Polhill garden centre. Park in the free car park and walk along the bridge and you’re straight into the woods. There are several walks but we like to walk down the hill across the open fields (perfect for running down) and then up into Shoreham woods and back round.
Ightham Mote – park in the National Trust car park which is free for members. There are tonnes of wooded walks around the estate which you can access from the car park rather than entering the grounds (and paying). Just follow the sign posted routes.
Mariners Hill – park at Hosey Common for free or Chartwell (free for National Trust Members) and you can pick up various routes through the woodlands. From Chartwell you can head to Mariners Hill and if you’re lucky, you will spot an awesome view of Chartwell House on your way up to Mariners Hill (which is also a lovely view). Follow the Greensand Way route which will take you weaving through beautiful woodland and open fields.
Toys Hill – all can park for free at this National Trust owned car park. Follow the plentiful circular routes to enjoy the best of the bluebells.
Dibden/Stubbs Woods – Go down Dibden Lane, just next to Britains Lane and you can park your car just past the bridge to the left. Take the path to the right and follow the footpath up the hill. There are so many different routes to explore leading deep into the woods. It’s really magical there.
Emmetts Gardens, Ide Hill – park in the National Trust car park which is free for members. Once in the estate you can wander the gardens and woodlands. The bluebells here are stunning. You can explore the woods further by walking past the natural play area and further into the woodlands.
Riverhill Himalayan Gardens – beautiful woods to explore at Riverhill. There is even a Bluebell Festival 24th April to 6th May 2019 – with a gorgeous woodland trail to wander through, including an extra loop not usually open to the public, by very kind permission of St Julians. An Artisan Makers Fair is also open in their Garden Room.
