Keep the kids off tech this Christmas break!

Whilst you may be busy finalising Christmas shopping, food prep, gift wrapping etc the kids might attach themselves to their tech! Here are our top 10 ideas on how to steer them away from tech during the holidays:

1. Get them baking cakes or brownies for Christmas or if they don’t have a sweet tooth, how about some festive sausage rolls? If your kids don’t like baking, how about just getting them to decorate some cakes. We love these Christmas sprinkles and edible eyes for a bit of fun!

2. Go to the woods to forage for plant and tree cuttings which can be used to create a door wreath or a centre-piece for the table. Buy an oasis or a metal wreath ring for them to easily to create a beautiful, seasonal display.

3. Perhaps you are hosting Christmas? Get the children to design and decorate place-cards for the table.

4. Do you have any elderly neighbours nearby? The children could make home-made gifts for them… fudge / cookies / jam/cranberry sauce/gingerbread men/sausage rolls as above. If they are teenagers, why not see if there are any errands they could do like dog walking or posting cards for the neighbours.

5. Kids can help to clear out their bedrooms to make space for new gifts. Perhaps you could give them a box each to fill for charity or re-gifting?

6. Watch an easy youtube tutorial on how to paint an acrylic wave and then have a family competition on who creates the best masterpiece! Perhaps a relative could judge the winner?!

7. Go for a walk to get some fresh air. Here’s a few local routes which we love.

8. Have a home spa day. Get the kids to make up some home-made face masks with ingredients  you have at home.

9. Acts of kindness for others: writing Christmas cards to people in our local care homes, litter pick, design a ‘treat’ jar for a parent or sibling with promises of tasks they can do to help around the house each day.

10. And last but definitely not least… get cosy, pour the kids a hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows, and put a Christmas movie on…
