What happens when you blend the spirit of Christmas with the magic of literature? Something truly heart-warming and unforgettable.

This festive season, each room of the Victorian Mansion House will be beautifully transformed with decorations inspired by much-loved books from Scotney Castle’s own collection. From the timeless whimsy of Alice in Wonderland to the nostalgia of A Christmas Carol, The Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Agatha Christie mysteries, and Jane Austen favourites—around every corner, a new chapter of enchantment awaits.

Visitors of all ages will enjoy weaving their way through the cosy, atmospheric house, where a feast for the senses lies in wait. Twinkling lights, tree decorations handcrafted from the pages of books, evocative music, and even seasonal aromas will bring each story to life. From a whimsical archway made of books to a rotating afternoon tea stand tree, every detail is designed to surprise and delight.

Little ones can write their Christmas wishes at our Santa letter-writing station in the gift shop, while everyone will enjoy spotting cheeky elves dressed as storybook characters on our brand-new outdoor garden trail.

Please book parking by 9am on day of arrival to avoid disapointment.

‘Late Nights & Lights’
Visit Scotney’s mansion after hours to see the house illuminated inside and out, enjoy glittering trees, sparkling decorations and beautiful lights. Please note this is not a full light trail and the focus of the illuminations is the mansion house and its immediate surrounds.

As well as the lights to enjoy and the decorated mansion house to visit, you’ll be able to toast marshmallows (small charge), browse the shop for gorgeous gifts and Christmas homeware, and enjoy some tasty treats in the cosy tea-room.

Letters to Santa

Festive feasting
